Best Young NFL QB

I’ll list out the top 5 best Young NFL Quarterbacks today. To qualify as a “young” quarterback, each player must have less than 3 years playing experience. It doesn’t matter if they’ve been in the league for 5 years, only if they’ve been playing.

In no particular order, we have:

  1. Philip Rivers
  2. Carson Palmer
  3. Eli Manning
  4. Tony Romo
  5. Vince Young/David Garrard

And once again, these are just my personal rankings. Coming up with someone in the 5th spot is rather hard, but from what I’ve seen Vince Young looks like he could be great in the NFL real soon. And Garrard is still like 8-3 in the last two years, so if he lands a starting job he has potential.

The point of this post is to simply make people aware of where Philip Rivers stands in the NFL today and the future. Whether we realize it or not, these 5 guys are the future of the NFL. In 5 years we won’t be talking about Peyton Manning, Donovan McNabb, Tom Brady, Steve McNair or Brett Favre. We’ll be talking about guys like Rivers. Rivers will be the next Brady (if he wins some Superbowls) or the next Manning (no Superbowls). Now, he might not put up big numbers like Manning, but he will be as recognizable in the NFL as Manning is.

Rivers is poised to make the playoffs this year and has a strong chance of making the Pro Bowl. After two more years of this, his face will be all over the place and Rivers will be a household name.  He will be the person people put on their TVs to watch.

The time is approaching that we should be accepting the new stars of the NFL and weeding out the old (Favre/Brad Johnson/Brunell/Kitna). Make was for the future I say. Make way for Philip Rivers. The man is a beast on the field. Complimented with the best running back in the NFL and the best tight end in the NFL, Rivers can accomplish great things. Think of Troy Aikman and his 3 Superbowls. He had great supporting cast as well.

Tomorrow, we’ll talk about the Chargers upcoming game against Buffalo.
