Rivers Injured in Chargers Win
Philip Rivers injured his knee in the 3rd quarter of yesterday’s Divisional Playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts. The San Diego Chargers were still able to rally around backup Billy Volek for a 28-24 victory.
Despite the injury, Rivers ended the game with pretty good stats. He was 14 of 19 for 264 yards 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. I wrote last week that Rivers only needed to be average for the Chargers to win the game. Well, Rivers outperformed what I expected him to do, even without the threat of Tomlinson (who was injured in the 2nd quarter) running the ball.
In a game where pretty much no one gave San Diego a chance, they went into the RCA Dome and beat the Colts for the second time this season. What a way to send the Colts out in the last game in the RCA Dome.
New England is their next opponent and Rivers is listed as questionable for the game. I’ll have more on the Patriots later this week.

I am not a Charger or Philip Rivers fan, but this garbage about him talking smack is stupid. He is a athlete and anyone knows that getting into your opponents head is part of a winning strategy. I doubt the Chargers have a chance, but the media needs to lay off Rivers. As he said, it is clean harmless fun and he is not hurting anyone.
Maybe the media is tired of running stories about Brittney Spears. Why not run a story about Junior Seau who owns a restaruant which is Chargers central, yet he is playing for the team that will likely prevent the Chargers from going to the Super Bowl? That is a story.

Philip Rivers is a great athlete and will be a great quarterback. Just as importantly he is a “good person.” He would never use language like that above.
Yes he goes against the grain but all who have ever achieved greatness have in one way or another. If he’s in pro sports at all (CFL included) in 5 years the world, if they knew who the fuck Rivers was, would be shocked. Rivers may continue to play over the next couple of seasons but the winning part will come at the hands of his teammates alone. One could easily wish a paralyzing injury on Rivers or even a life ending injury on him and I don’t see any of that here.
