Rivers Shows Heart in Chargers Loss
Philip Rivers showed a lot of heart in the San Diego Chargers loss to the Patriots in the AFC Championship game. Word got out that Rivers had surgery on his knee the Monday prior to the game and still came out no Sunday to give it his all (which is more then Tomlinson can say). Unfortunately for the Chargers, Rivers “all’ wasn’t quite enough to beat the Pats. Rivers ended the game 19 of 37 for 211 yards and 2 interceptions.
A lot of you might question whether or not Rivers even should have been in the game. When healthy, he is a better QB then Volek, but when injured… I’m not so sure. Those two interceptions by Rivers were directly related to his bum knee. Philip just couldn’t step into a throw. The two turnovers result in Patriots scores.
When the Pats are playing bad, you have to take advantage of it. The Chargers defense stepped up big by picking off Brady 3 times and limiting the Pats to only 21 points. It was all set up for the Chargers to win… they just came up short. You can’t trade touchdowns for field goals against the Pats.
Rivers definitely showed a lot of heart in the game, but heart doesn’t always come out on top. He fought for his team and wanted to be on the field in the big game, and for that I give him props.

Philip Rivers is the toughest QB in the NFL??? are you kidding me? He may be the softest QB. He injured himself against the colts on a play where NO ONE EVEN TOUCHED HIM, had to have knee surgery, and couldn’t get Touchdowns when the Chargers needed them. Philip Rivers is a joke.

No one can question the toughness of Philip Rivers. You can’y break the NCAA record for most starts in a career without being tough. Most people don’t know this but Rivers played his entire senior year of college with a separated left shoulder. Not to mention that he played the day after he and his wife lost a child (I believe it was his junior year). I’m tired of people not giving him credit for being a great quarterback. Not only did he make the pro bowl in his first year as a starter, he led his team to the AFC Championship game in his second year as a starter. People claim that he has LT and Gates but that’s all he has. In this leage it is almost impossible to be successful without a dominate receiving corp which rivers does not have.

One of the two picks was not PR’s fault… blame it on Chris Chambers for not fighting for the ball against Samuels. PR made the throw on a dime, and Chambers just watched Samuel step in front of him uncontested.

Has anyone heard of Rivers getting busted having meth on him at a gay bath house or something?

Wes-
Phillip was a Senior the year his wife’s miscarried, I was at that game at Wake Forest, and even though State lost, Rivers completed 38-of-49 passes for a career-high
433 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
If there is one thing that is apparent in all of this, it’s that Rivers is a competitor. I don’t necessarily agree with him jawing to the crowd, even if they start the trash talking, but this guy has a desire to play no matter what. He was an Ironman in College, and wants to maintain that status in the next level.
I don’t know him personally- so I could be mistaken with my perception- but playing an AFC Championship game without an ACL is astonishing. If the Chargers would have won that game, it would have catapulted Rivers to the Kirk Gibson of the NFL.
I’m eager to see what fire he brings to the field next season. I still think he’s the best QB in the 2004 Draft Class… even if the other two first rounders already have rings.
