Rivers Solid Against Seattle

The San Diego Chargers won their 3rd preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks last weekend. Philip Rivers looked pretty solid going 11-21 for 143 yards. While he didn’t throw any touchdowns, and his completion percentage wasn’t the best… it was still a good outing for him. ESPN’s Ron Jaworski pointed out that Rivers’ mechanics are flawless, pushing nicely off his back foot and “driving his hips through.”

Rivers played into the 3rd quarter, as did many of the Chargers’ starting players. The 3rd preseason game is always the best test for starters. Coaches tend to completely rest their players in the 4th game. Turner knows Rivers is healthy and ready to play.

Some bad news coming out of the Charger’s organization is that Shawne Merriman may be lost for the season. Some people are saying if he plays this year he could damage his knees further and end his career. “Right now, in talking to him, his mind-set is he’s doing everything he can to get ready for Carolina, our opener,” Turner said. “He just wants to get a little bit more information on his knee.”

This doesn’t really effect what Philip Rivers does on the field, other then the fact that the offense may be starting with worse field position this year.
