Rivers Goes Deep In Win
Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers went deep on their first offensive play of the game. He connected with Vincent Jackson on a 48 yard bomb. “Philip’s been awesome,” said Vincent Jackson, who had five receptions for a game-high 134 yards. The Chargers beat New England 30-10.
Philip Rivers completed 18 of 27 passes for 306 yards. He threw 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions, this being his 4th game of 2008 with 3 touchdowns. What impressed me the most was Philips ability to launch the ball downfield with perfect timing. “There may be a week where we don’t hit anything down the field more than 20 yards, and we’ve got to be high percentage and dink-and-dunking,” Rivers said.
When asked if the Chargers were trying to stick it to the Patriots for what happened in the AFC Championship game last year: “Playing New England was big; we didn’t intentionally downplay it,” Rivers said. “It wasn’t necessarily a payback game at all. It doesn’t replace those three losses.
“But it was big to beat these guys. I think the main reason it was big [was] because of the situation we were in. We’re 2-3 and it gets us back to .500.”
