San Diego Chargers Schedule

Steven, brother of Philip, transfers to Athens

The younger brother of Philip Rivers, Steven Rivers, a rising junior quarterback has transferred from Austin High School to the Athens.
Steven Rivers is 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds as a sophomore. He started for the Black Bears as a sophomore and had led the team to a record of 5-6.

The father of Rivers’, Steve, who was at Decatur and Athens as head coach for 21 seasons while compiling a 152-77 record, is also heard of coming out of retirement to join the Golden Eagles staff as the coach of quarterback.

Steve Rivers left Athens when Philip Rivers signed with the North Carolina State following an All-State season in the year 1999 and was head coach at Wakefield High in Raleigh, N.C., for 4 long years.

Steve Rivers left this post and moved on with his family to San Diego after Philip Rivers signed with the Chargers. Then the family eventually returned to Decatur and Steven Rivers began playing for the Austin. I am sure there would be some changes in the NFL Football Picks after this announcement.

Steven Rivers will now play at Athens where his brother starred for his father, who coached the team from the year 1996 to 1999.

The fans at NC State are keeping a sharp eye out for Stephen, and keeping close tabs on his recruitment. We all know what a knowledgeable player that Philip is/was, and what an outstanding person he is, too. I feel confident that Steve is raising another phenomenal human being. We would be proud to have Stephen come home for his four year career, and don the Red and White! Steve could come back and help out at Wakefield, too. They love him over there.

As an aside, I want to thank Philip for everything he did for our University (NCSU). We will never forget the excitement that you brought to Raleigh. Those memories will NEVER fade. Come back and visit sometime. The Spring game is this weekend, and has been drawing huge crowds the past few years. It also doubles as a reunion weekend for past players. AND, the Holt brothers hold their annual charitable golf tournament over this same weekend to benefit cancer victims and their families. We would love to have you back in town, Philip. Go Pack!
