Rivers performace compared with Brett

Let us compare today Philip Rivers with Brett Favre

First Year:

It was not at all a rookie season for either Rivers or for Brett. Brett Favre spent a season on the bench in Atlanta where as Philip Rivers spent two sitting behind Drew Brees. Both of them They learned in practice and after being fairly polished came in, but with room to grow.

Conclusion: Suppose if there is any competition between the two then Rivers wins easily. Though Rivers completion percentage is lower, but his yards, TDs and QB rating is more. He even threw a higher percentage of his passes for TDs and yes, a lower percentage for interceptions. Both of them made the Pro Bowl in the first year starting.

Second Year:

This year both were polished from running the plays in a real game to go. They also gained knowledge of the offense and running the plays in practice.

Conclusion: Both of them did take a minor step back in their second year. Though the defenses adapted to them but they struggled. Both of them threw more picks and had the same number of TDs from their first season. The completion percentages of both of them dropped.

Third Year:

In this year both the player saw significant time on an NFL field. This was the year when lot of “get it”. The players become craftier and also learned how to play right on the edge of danger while still remaning efficient.

Conclusion: The record of the team worsen up this year. In Philip Rivers’ defense, his second year starting involved a coaching overhaul. There was a new head coach, new offensive coordinator and also a new defensive coordinator. The year also involved an injured RB for most of the season and also the loss of the team’s best pass rusher and even a defensive coordinator change mid-season.

I agree. Rivers would easily win. For one, he is able to threw a higher percentage of his passes for TDs and more.
