Charges needs Philip Rivers more than Tomlinson
In the 1970s the AFC West was dominated by the Oakland Raiders due to Ken Stabler and in 1980s due to John Elway of the Denver Broncos. San Diego Chargers dominates this decade due to LaDainian Tomlinson.

Tomlinson’s greatness allowed the Chargers to win the AFC West in the previous two seasons and four times in the last five years. Tomlinson has also won two NFL rushing titles and four Pro Bowls in the same time period.
He has been the difference between the Chargers and the Broncos during that stretch.
The San Diego Chargers have moved as a team and now have shifted their focus from the ground to the air with the development of QB Philip Rivers.
Chargers ranked 20th in NFL in the rushing last season and 7th in the passing. This season the gap has widened. They have ranked last in the NFL in rushing and 2nd in the passing. They are no longer counting on the weekly 100 yards, two touchdowns from Tomlinson.
